The National Program Office (NPO) of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Public Health Law Research (PHLR) program invites submissions of abstracts for oral presentation at the PHLR Annual Meeting to be held January 18-20, 2012 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The theme of the Annual Meeting will be “Public Health Law: Targets of Opportunity.” Discussion and scholarly work presented at the meeting will focus on how laws can improve on current efforts to prevent and mitigate significant public health problems. It will explore potential mechanisms through which law can promote health including: health problems for which legal approaches are absent, underdeveloped, or have misfired; the evidence base supporting legal approaches to these problems; and priority topics for future public health law research.

The meeting is open both to grantees of the PHLR program and to non-grantees. Abstracts selected through this solicitation will be presented on January 19. Two to three abstracts will be selected for oral presentation under each of the following themes:
         PANEL A: Communicable Diseases
         PANEL B: Non-Communicable Diseases
         PANEL C: Injury Prevention

Submissions should be detailed, structured abstracts of no more than three pages in length that include: a clear description of the research question and why it is important (Background); the methods used for data collection and analysis (Methods); why the results are important and linked to one of the three themes above (Discussion); and any important qualifications (Limitations).

Submit your abstract to the PHLR Request for Abstracts feature on myrwjf.org.
